Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of core stabilization exercise and resistance training on the changes of chronic low back pain and the center of gravity(COG). 23 chronic lumbago patients were divided into 3 groups as core stabilization group(n=8), resistance training group(n=8), and combined group(n=7) with core stabilization exercise and resistance training. They have been evaluated the body composition, COG and visual analogue scale(VAS) at 3 times(before training, after 3 weeks, and 6 weeks of training). Although there were no significant diffe- rences of weight and fat mass among three groups, core stabilization group had a significant decrease of %fat. After 3 weeks, core stabilization group had a little improvement of the COG in Coronal Left-Right(CLR) and Harmonic Frequency Pst-Frnt(HFPF). Resistance training and combined group had improved the center of gravity in Midsagittal Pst-Frnt(MPF) and Harmonic Frequency Left-Right(HFLR) after 6 weeks of training. In the changes of VAS, combined group was significantly lower than any other groups in back pain, exercise pain, stiffness, walking discomfort, standing still pain, twisting pain, handicap, work interference, work modification. In conclusion, combined exercise program with core stabilization exercise and resistance training of 6 weeks showed the reduction of %fat, balance of the COG, and low back pain. This program is suggested as an effective intervention for chronic lumbago patients.
